It's the end of a long, tiring (in a good way) bank holiday weekend, my legs are aching from the amount of walking I've done but I'm now snuggled up with slippers, cardi and cup of tea ready to catch up on some blogging. I mentioned in my July payday haul that I was looking forward to my brother coming to stay so I thought I'd write a little lifestyle post on what we got up to! After a tumultuous last week - which included cycling into a lamp post (ouch), going for a job interview (eek) and coming down with sinusitus (boo) - the weekend itself has been lovely and we actually had some really nice weather! (I did get stung under the eye by a fly when we were out and about, but I'm hoping that's my fair share of bad luck for a while!)
My not-so-little brother (who is now 20) arrived on the Saturday with my parents who were down for the day; we spent most of the day at my sister's place playing with Ezra (my nephew), had lunch, tea and cake and went for a walk. Afterwards my parents dropped us home where we met my boyfriend and decided to go for a late dinner at Wagamama on the Clifton Triangle which was of course delicious - we shared a couple of starters (included some amazing fried squid) and I had a chicken and rice dish which Dean had to finish - sticky rice is so filling! Afterwards we headed home, the boys had a few ciders while playing Call of Duty and I caught up on some YouTube videos, before all turning in for an early night as I and Alex were going to be up early the next day to begin our Gromit hunt.
The early start fell by the wayside as we were all so tired - we left the house just after 1 o'clock and walked over to Redland train station to catch the train up to Clifton, which only takes 3 minutes but cuts out a very steep hill - I use the Bristol circular trains quite a lot, they're so handy for getting across the city and you hardly ever have to pay (shh). We started our Gromit trail on Whiteladies road (pictured: Dog Rose) and ventured on into Clifton - there were some we couldn't find but it's a picturesque area to wander around anyway - winding up by the suspension bridge and Camera Obscura before meandering down to the Triangle, snap-snapping as we went (all the photos are on Alex's phone... bad blogger). We stopped off for lunch in Wetherspoons on Park St, we both had classic beef burgers with bacon and mozarella which were seriously yum and set us up nicely for a second round of traipsing around the city - I wish I'd taken more photos now but I suppose that's an endeavour I can strive to improve on! After stopping off at the Bristol museum, St George's theatre and @Bristol, by the time we reached Broadmead (the main shopping centre) most of the shops were closing so we rounded up the last few sculptures before heading home for a bit of a chill out. Later on we ordered Pizza Hut takeaway (50% off, win) complete with cookie dough desserts and watched Hitch, which has got to be one of my all-time favourite films - Will Smith cracks me up every time.

Today, since the shops were shut yesterday, I dragged poor Alex into town for a wander around - it was literally heaving and the weather was so sunny. I picked up a few beauty bits (but not many as I do want him to visit again!), swung by the American sweet shop and picked up a job-lot of lined refill pads from WHSmith (which I'm currently scrawling away in). Worth mentioning are Adam from Girls modelling for GAP - who knew? - and a pop-up Candy Kittens opening in Cabot Circus. We met my sister and Ezra for a little while, had icecream - which of course Ezra managed to get everywhere before proceeding to try and eat dead leaves (he turns 1 in a couple of weeks) - before heading home at a brisk trot because Alex needed to get his train.
I quite like doing lifestyle posts like this every now and again as it makes a change from the beauty talk and I really enjoy writing them!
(I'll have to get better at the picture-taking though)
What did you get up to over the bank holiday?
