When preparing for an interview - aside from reading up about the organisation, revising the job description and coming up with an original answer to the dreaded 'What will you bring to the team?' question - you want to be looking and feeling your best, and for me that means clear skin, groomed nails and brows and swishy hair. I had an interview to prepare for last week and so as well as setting aside time to swot up on company's values and perfect my interview technique, I also reserved a few hours for a lengthy pamper session.
The night before, the first thing I did was give my hair a good old wash with - of course - the Herbal Essences Bee Strong range, what else? I promise I'll shut up about these soon as they're rapidly running out! After towel-drying I smoothed through a dollop of the Kerastase Nectar Thermique and allowed myself the luxury of a blowdry - et voila, smooth shiny hair. Next, to get my skin looking in tip-top condition I slapped on my usual mid-week application of the Palmer's clay mask which always has my skin looking clean and soft within a matter of (ten) minutes. Finally, even though I wasn't going to be flashing any skin at the interview (god forbid) I got to work with my razor and Satin Care as I wouldn't feel properly groomed if I wasn't fuzz-free!
My eyebrows had been in need of some attention for a while - I'd been putting off forking out the £17 for my usual threading session, but with an interview looming I was out of excuses. The good news is I'm now due a free session after having been 5 times (yay). If you have a Harvey Nichols near you with a Blink brow bar I'd highly recommend it - it is slightly pricier than other places but the service and the results are amazing. You get a mini head massage thrown in too! FYI I like many people go bright pink after threading (to the point that I want to run straight home and hide under the duvet) but I've found this pure aloe gel from Forever calms and soothes the redness in the blink of an eye. This is great as a spot treatment too due to the antibacterial properties of the aloe - a really handy multi-tasker to have to hand.
A key factor in feeling on top of my game is emaculately groomed nails - for this I got to work with my nail file, almond cuticle oil and Soap & Glory Hand Food, before painting my current fave (Bourjois BC Beige) onto fingers for a nice 'n' neutral mani and Mavala Lagoon onto toes for a concealed pop of colour - for me feeling good means looking my best from top to toe, the bits that are going to be on show as well as those that aren't! After going over my notes one last time I settled down for a good nights sleep - the best beauty cure - aided by my current bedtime buddy, the Badger Sleep Balm - zzz.
On the morning of the interview I kept my makeup characteristically minimal; a natural base of Bourjois Healthy Mix serum foundation teamed with my signature kohl-and-mascara eyes and a dusting of Bourjois little round pot blush (again in the shade Healthy Mix) for a peachy-pink flush to cheeks. For lips I brought out an old favourite that's been gathering dust over the summer but is now firmly back in my makeup bag - Mac's Hug Me is a gorgeous pink-toned nude that suits my olive complexion perfectly; great for a polished, groomed look that's not too obvious or in-your-face. A quick spritz of Orla Kiely perfume to ensure I'm smelling good (and one of Smile to banish coffee breath) and a once over with the Kent bristle brush to smooth flyaways and I'm good to go.
Unfortunately I didn't end up getting the job but the interview did go really well and has made me feel a lot more confident about upcoming interviews now that I've got the first one out of the way!
What do you do to prepare for an interview?
